ABOUT US
The Gourmutt Kitchen was created as a place to produce the original Lucy’s Muttloaf — the recipe that started it all. More than ten years ago, Lucy, a beloved rescue dog, inspired the very first batch of wholesome, homemade dog food. What began as one simple recipe in a family kitchen was refined over the years into the artisanal, nutritious product we’re proud to share with you today.
But The Gourmutt Kitchen is more than just a place to make Muttloaf. It’s a space where dog owners can gather, connect, and see first-hand how our food is lovingly crafted. Everything is made with the same care and attention we give our own family meals — fresh, homemade, and thoughtfully prepared right here on-site.
We’re the Lassiter family — four kids, two dogs, two cats, and a lively flock of chickens. With Dr. Meredith Lassiter’s expertise in human nutrition and Mike’s culinary background, our lives revolve around good food, good health, and caring for those we love (whether they walk on two legs or four).
Our passion deepened when our boxer mix, Duke, was diagnosed with Addison’s disease and began showing signs of liver failure. Instead of turning to invasive procedures, we leaned on Lucy’s original recipe — and within months, his health rebounded. Today, at 11 years old, Duke is thriving with the energy of a much younger dog. While we don’t make medical claims, we do believe in the power of real, nourishing food.
At The Gourmutt Kitchen, we believe your pets deserve the same care, quality, and flavor you’d expect in your own meals. That’s why every recipe is made with fresh, recognizable ingredients — because we know first-hand the difference good food can make.
MEET THE FOUNDERS
Dr. Meredith Lassiter
A family practice physician with a fellowship in anti-aging medicine and an undergraduate degree in food science and human nutrition. Meredith is a devoted mother of four and an animal lover through and through.
Mike Lassiter
A Georgia Tech mechanical engineering graduate with a wide range of culinary experience, from chef and food safety consultant to gourmet food product entrepreneur. Mike is passionate about gardening, cooking, and creating healthy, delicious meals for family, friends, and pets alike.

My 5 dogs are on it. My 2 seniors at 9 and 13 years old just had perfect bloodwork. It starts with the food. They love it. I'm a professional pet sitter and many of my clients feed it to their dogs. Highly recommend!

Watson is a picky eater.l and he loves it ( albeit served on a placemat on the coffee table, but still...) Charlie has health problems. For both this conveniently proportioned food is perfect. My vet approved it for Charlie's diabetes and Cushions so, actually it is less expensive than the canned slop that Charlie hated. It's a win/win.
I have one very picky eater and one who resigns himself to eat anything he finds on the ground. Both LOVE this dog food! I was introduced by a friend who brought me one package of each, the loaf and the meatballs. I was feeding them Farmer's Dog, so not exactly cheap food, but both gobbled this down and we've never looked back. Try it!
My long haired chihuahua was having unexplained seizures. I researched that corn, wheat and soy, found in most dog foods, are inflammatory. I started him on Lucy’s Mutt loaf , which does not contain any of these ingredients, 3 years ago and he never had another seizure.
